Dawgs dominant in debut at Road to Okotoks

Okotoks takes opener 11-1 over Atlantic Frontier to cap day one at Baseball Canada nationals

The Okotoks Dawgs Academy is off to an electric start at nationals. Louis Charles-Larouche hit a two-run home run as part of a three-run first inning as Dawgs Black powered past Atlantic Frontier 11-1 to close the opening day of the Baseball Canada Road to Okotoks for the Morneau Cup Tuesday at Seaman Stadium. Larouche, who will compete in Friday’s home run derby, showcased his power with a no-doubt dinger over the right field wall with Kadyn Armitage adding an RBI on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the first.

Igniting some early fire in the nightcap and gives the Dawgs and early 2-0 lead.... pic.twitter.com/BS9T5Qg4Zv Leadoff hitter Noah Corrente added an RBI single in the fourth with Okotoks notching three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth for the mercy rule victory in five innings.

Alex Machej had three RBI for the Dawgs with Pryor Woolett and Cam Gerla registering two hits and Nash Pearce stealing three bases. On the mound, AJ Rogers held Frontier to two hits and one run over four innings while striking out six. Earlier in the day, the Mississauga Tigers edged Team Saskatchewan 5-2, Vauxhall Academy powered past Quebec’s DT Selects 11-1, the Sylvan Lake Gulls blanked Terriers Baseball 5-0, Victoria Eagles eclipsed the Ontario Blue Jays 4-0, the UBC Thunder toppled the Abbotsford Cardinals 8-5, AHP Renegades triumphed over the Ontario Kobras 12-2 and the Etobicoke Rangers outlasted the Langley Blaze 2-1.

Day two kicks off with a pair of games at 8 a.m. on July 15 with the Dawgs and Gulls clashing at 2:45 p.m. at Seaman Stadium. The opening ceremonies for the tournament take place at 6 p.m. in advance of the WCBL Dawgs’ Wednesday night matchup at 7 p.m. For full schedule information on the Road to Okotoks, click here.
