Million-dollar contract awarded for Surrey Sport & Leisure Complex renos Published 11:21 am Friday, July 17, 2026 Surrey council has awarded Willow Spring Construction Ltd. a $1,183,226.88 contract to renovate the Surrey Sport & Leisure Complex particularly with wrestling in mind. The spending limit is set at $1,301,550. The complex, at #100 16555 Fraser Highway, is a 209,056 square-foot multi-purpose recreation facility offering numerous aquatic, fitness and recreation programs.

More than 6,000 square feet of vacant space on the second floor will be renovated into new multi-purpose and mat rooms. The work is expected to begin late July and be done by late 2026. Councillor Gordon Hepner noted it will “primarily” be used by wrestling groups.

Laurie Cavan, Surrey’s manager of parks, recreation and culture said the city has experienced “lots of growth in wrestling and we were looking for opportunities to expand those facilities so yes in the after-school hours wrestling will be a key priority and that will be reflected in the allocation of the time.” Cavan noted there will be “opportunity” to introduce seniors programs during the day, daycamps for children in the summer and other fitness classes but “definitely wrestling given its popularity will receive a high priority in the after-school hours and we’ve been working with the wrestling clubs across the city in terms of the allocation at that facility.”

Hepner replied that’s “wonderful – I know that there’s a lot of interest in wrestling amongst the community and especially considering the limited facilities this is good news.”
