Police say a woman in her 70s was assaulted in a public washroom in an Abbotsford park early Thursday morning. According to the Abbotsford Police Department, a suspect who is believed to be a man entered the washroom in Ellwood Park at around 6:40 a.m., where he found and assaulted the woman before fleeing the area. “She sustained injuries requiring medical attention and was transported to hospital, where she was treated and later released,” police said, in a statement.
Officers searched the area but couldn’t find the suspect, police said, noting that an Abbotsford Police Department forensic team was called in to help investigate. “Early indications suggest the incident was random in nature,” police added. Anyone who was in or near Ellwood Park between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., or anyone with information or video related to the assault, has been asked to call Abbotsford police at 604-859-5225 and quote file number 2026-30116.
