Elderly woman hospitalized after unprovoked assault in Abbotsford: police

A woman in her 70s was assaulted in a public washroom in Abbotsford early Thursday morning, police say.

Police say a woman in her 70s was assaulted in a public washroom in an Abbotsford park early Thursday morning. According to the Abbotsford Police Department, a suspect who is believed to be a man entered the washroom in Ellwood Park at around 6:40 a.m., where he found and assaulted the woman before fleeing the area. “She sustained injuries requiring medical attention and was transported to hospital, where she was treated and later released,” police said, in a statement.

Officers searched the area but couldn’t find the suspect, police said, noting that an Abbotsford Police Department forensic team was called in to help investigate. “Early indications suggest the incident was random in nature,” police added.
