Essex man fined $3K for illegally hunting deer in Elgin County MNR says an investigation determined the man did the same thing the previous year An Essex, Ont., man has been fined $3,000 for a deer hunting violation, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR). He was convicted in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas in May. It stems from a November incident when a conservation officer came across the hunter in the area of West Elgin who had tagged a deer while taking part in a party hunt.

An inspection revealed he wasn’t validated to do so, officials said. Further investigation determined the man had committed the same offence during a 2024 controlled deer hunt. The MNR says his deer was seized and donated.
