One person has died after a fire broke out at a three-storey building on Edmonton’s north side Monday night, according to a City of Edmonton spokesperson.

They said fire crews were called to a fire at a building in the area of 132nd Avenue and 82nd Street at 9:19 p.m.

When firefighters arrived four minutes later, a second alarm was called shortly thereafter and more resources were deployed to the scene. A city spokesperson told CBC News the first floor of the building houses businesses and the upper two floors are apartments. The spokesperson said the entire building had been evacuated.

As of 10 p.m., 11 crews were at the scene. The city spokesperson said it was not immediately clear how many people were injured in the fire. Multiple ambulances were at the scene.

The city spokesperson said it was too early to determine what may have caused the fire.
