The Brandon Police Service received a 911 report regarding a fire behind a home on the 900 block of First Street at around 12:40 a.m., BPS said in a news release. When police arrived, a shed and garage on the property were fully engulfed in flames, BPS said. Brandon Fire & Emergency Services also responded and extinguished the fire, police said.

BPS said BFES believed the fire was accidental and likely caused by a discarded cigarette butt. No injuries were reported, police said. RESTAURANT MISCHIEF City police arrested a man after he allegedly smashed a window at a Brandon restaurant on Tuesday evening.

Shortly before 6 p.m. the Brandon Police Service received a report that a man was kicking things and had smashed a window at the restaurant on the 2800 block of Victoria Avenue, BPS said in a news release. Police arrested a 35-year-old man at the scene and charged him with mischief under $5,000 and breaching his probation. He is scheduled to appear in court in September.
