First Pixel 11 teaser confirms ‘Pixel Glow’, but Googlebook still does it better

The road to the August 12 Made by Google event is getting a lot shorter, and Google is giving us a tiny tease of the finish line this week. Following the initial event announcement just a few days ago, a brand-new teaser video has dropped, giving us our first official look at the upcoming flagship smartphone and confirming a brand-new hardware feature. First spotted by 9to5Google, the short teaser heavily leans into a sleek gold colorway for what is presumably the Pixel 11 Pro; but the real star of the short clip is our first glimpse at a brand-new lighting feature that's been heavily rumored for months.

Enter the 'Pixel Glow' For weeks, rumors have been swirling about a new dynamic lighting system coming to the back of the Pixel lineup. The teaser video confirms it is real, but it isn't quite the light strip some were expecting. Instead of a full LED array around the camera hump, the new "Pixel Glow" looks to occupy the circular cutout to the right of the camera bar, sitting exactly where the traditional flashlight usually lives.

The teaser shows this circular element cycling through a full, vibrant range of RGB colors and is admittedly a fun, dynamic touch that will likely tie into Gemini Intelligence notifications, battery charging status, or custom caller IDs. Cool, but Googlebook does it better Don't get me wrong; adding a customizable, color-changing LED to the back of the Pixel 11 is a very neat trick that adds a dash of personality to the camera visor. But as we sit here patiently waiting for the fall hardware season, I can't help but think about how Google is pulling off a similar hardware trick with Googlebook.

Comparing that impressive hardware flare to the Pixel 11's tiny, circular LED indicator, the sweeping light strip across the back of a premium Googlebook lid is flat-out going to be cooler.

It is clear that Google is trying to unify its hardware design language across the entire ecosystem with these dynamic lights, but I just think the laptop form factor is where this feature is going to catch more eyeballs. That being said, I do like the look of Pixel Glow and think it will be a very cool addition to the Pixel ecosystem.
