F.W. Green Home construction to impact nearby traffic flow

The city says offsite infrastructure works and temporary road closures will be happening around the construction zone of the Dr. F.W. Green Memorial Home replacement project for most of the summer.

Green Home construction to impact nearby traffic flow Published 10:06 am Thursday, July 16, 2026 The city says offsite infrastructure works and temporary road closures will be happening around the construction zone of the Dr. F.W. Green Memorial Home replacement project for most of the summer. It is expected to begin around July 22 and last until early September.

The offsite works include water, sewer, and storm sewer infrastructure connections to the new long-term care home on 17th Avenue South, and along a portion of 3rd Street South. The city says residents in this area can expect site preparation, excavation, equipment and material deliveries, utility installation, concrete and asphalt work, and some other construction related activities. Noise generating work, like machinery operation, will only take place during permitted work hours and will follow all local bylaws.

Residents whose property fronts directly onto the work site, the contractor will reach out directly to discuss property access and answer any questions. The F.W. Green Memorial Home expansion will see the facility expanded to 150 beds that will be built in two phases. Construciton is underway on Phase 1, which will feature a new building with expected completion in 2027.

Once it is finished, Phse Two will involve moving residents from existing facility will be moved into the new one, and the old building will be demolished and rebuilt, with an expected timeline of 2030.
