We just get a teaser for now, but it’ll be the brand’s second EV, following the big-daddy Range Rover Electric
Range Rover is getting its second full EV in the form of a Range Rover Sport Electric JLR privately previewed the SUV at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with a full debut set for autumn The automaker apparently showed it off to customers via a “series of driven challenges” Following the preview of its forthcoming Range Rover Electric, the very British brand has announced it will also introduce a Range Rover Sport Electric later this year. The model was apparently shown at what is described as a “private preview event” at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K. last weekend.
Organizers say it tackled a series of driven challenges in homage to well-known Range Rover feats from the past, including the 999‐step ascent at Heaven’s Gate in China ; and a climb of an Icelandic spillway. No word on whether the new Range Rover Sport Electric actually checked those feats off its bucket list or if it did other tasks in honour of the same. Details are light in terms of powertrain, though more than one electric motor is assured thanks to the Range Rover screed of having ample off-road chops.
The phrase “more power and torque” is part of the bumf, though more than what is unclear. More than the existing gasoline-powered Range Rover Sport? The big-daddy RR Electric?
The 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier? It’s a mystery. Peons who were not invited to the private event at Goodwood must make do with the teaser images shown here, though it does seem the electric RRS will have a form factor very similar to its internal-combustion cousin.
This would be wise, since luxury carmakers appeared to have figured out that while well-heeled customers might not necessarily object to an electrified powertrain, they typically do not want a vehicle that looks like an unfinished science project or partially eaten lozenge. After all, how would one show off at the country club if one’s new Range Rover has strange new styling? Land Rover introduces Defender Vertex SUV Review: 2024 Land Rover Range Rover SV P615 Including markets outside of North America, the Range Rover Sport apparently runs the table in terms of powertrain choice; on the docket are plug-in hybrids, mild hybrids, six-cylinder gassers, a diesel, and now this electric.
