Mitsuko Clysdale remains hospitalized in a coma one month after collision
Family launches fundraiser for woman struck by truck in Mission Published 5:30 am Friday, July 17, 2026 A fundraiser to support the recovery of a woman struck by a pickup truck in Mission last month has set a $40,000 target. Mitsuko Clysdale, 66, remains hospitalized in a self-induced coma following the collision on June 16 while she was crossing the street.
According to the GoFundMe launched by her daughter Sumiye Clysdale on Thursday (July 16), the funds would go towards covering expenses such as assisted living, occupational therapy, and other potential medical expenses, since the family doesn’t yet know how she’ll be able to take care of herself. “When my mom wakes up, there will be a lot of additional expenses with the adjustments we’ll need to make to her life to support this transition for her due to her severe brain damage,” Sumiye Clysdale wrote on the GoFundMe page. She wrote that people would describe her mother as a vibrant woman, full of life and love who always puts up a good fight for those she loves.
“We’d greatly appreciate your help and any contributions to helping my mom in getting the best chance at living a life closest to how she used to,” Sumiye Clysdale said. Mitsuko Clysdale was airlifted to hospital in critical condition on June 16 after she suffered a serious head injury at the corner of Cedar Street and Cherry Avenue – just a few minutes from her home. “Since the accident, she’s had to have brain surgery on her frontal lobe area and has been treated for her other serious injuries.
She is currently still in a self-induced coma but stable. My family and I are hopeful she will wake up soon,” Sumiye Clysdale said. In a news release following the collision, Mission RCMP said the 73-year-old pickup truck driver who struck Clysdale registered a “warn” reading on a roadside screening device.
He was issued a 3-day immediate roadside prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act. “The alleged level of impairment did not meet the threshold for criminal impaired driving charges to be recommended,” police said at the time. The man stopped and spoke with investigators after the collision, RCMP said.
“It appears that the truck had been northbound on Cedar Street, stopped at a red light, then started to turn right onto Cherry Avenue. At the same time, the woman began crossing westbound across Cedar Street, reportedly with a pedestrian walk signal at the time,” RCMP said. As of Thursday afternoon, the GoFundMe for Clysdale has received 25 donations and raised $1,876.
