Geon phasing out manufacturing at Ohio site

Geon Performance Solutions is phasing out manufacturing at Ohio site, but will retain its Solution Center.

Westlake, Ohio-based Geon Performance Solutions will phase out its manufacturing center in nearby Avon Lake, Ohio, by the end of 2026. The operation is moving to Dyersburg, Tenn., as part of a long-term strategic plan to modernize and grow the company, and optimize its footprint in the PVC market, according to a company statement emailed from Marketing Director Jennifer Martin. “This planned transition reflects Geon’s commitment to advancing operational excellence and sustainability,” the statement says.

“As production at Avon Lake is phased out, Geon will continue to invest in advanced technology, automation and manufacturing capabilities at Dyersburg to maintain our overall PVC capacity.” The statement doesn’t say how the transition will affect employees. A portfolio company of private equity firm SK Capital Partners, Geon offers compounding and contract manufacturing services to the medical, building materials, automotive, connectivity, and appliances markets.

The company formed in 2019 after SK Capital Partners acquired PolyOne Corp.’s Performance Products and Solutions unit in a $775 million cash deal. The business included Geon-brand PVC compounds and other operations that became Geon Performance Solutions. In terms of facilities, the acquisition included eight U.S. plants: Avon Lake, Dyersburg and Clinton, Tenn.; Carson, Calif.; Terre Haute, Ind.; Louisville, Ky.; and Pasadena and Seabrook, Texas; as well as Canadian plants in Orangeville, Ontario, and St. Remi de Napierville, Quebec; and plants in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, and Dongguan, China.

Geon has 15 manufacturing sites, according to its Linked-In page. Geon’s Avon Lake Solution Center, which offers services related to product development, pilot-scale compounding and material testing, will continue operations. “By transitioning Avon Lake processes to Dyersburg, we can respond to customer needs more efficiently, innovate across the value chain, and maintain supply reliability,” the company statement says.
