Police continue to investigate a collision Thursday evening in Wellesley township where a van hit a child who was rollerblading. The 10-year-old girl was taken to an out-of-region hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Girl, 10, taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by van in Wellesley Township 71-year-old male driver of Chevrolet van not injured, police say A 10-year-old girl has been taken to an out-of-region hospital after being hit by a van while rollerblading Thursday night in Wellesley Township. Emergency crews were called to the area of Ament Line near Road 116, near Linwood west of Elmira, just before 8 p.m. A 10-year-old girl wearing rollerblades was transported to an out-of-region hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the Chevrolet van was a 71-year-old man from Huron County.

Police say he was not injured in the collision. The area was closed for several hours while police officers investigated. The roadway was reopened Friday morning.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone who may have witnessed what happened or who has dash cam footage of the collision is asked to contact the Waterloo Regional Police Service.
