Greater Sudbury Fire Services receives $52,000 for rescue equipment

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada makes the donation

Article content Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada is donating $52,000 to Greater Sudbury Fire Services so it can improve the city’s emergency response capabilities. Fire services will use the money to purchase 11 lifting bags, along with four master control kits and accessories. Recommended Videos The new equipment will support firefighters during vehicle extrications and other technical rescue operations.

Once in service, the lifting bags will allow crews to safely raise heavy objects and stabilize complex rescue scenes – improving outcomes for residents when seconds matter. “We are extremely grateful to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada and our local Firehouse Subs restaurant for this vital support,” Fire Chief Rob Grimwood said in a release. “Having reliable, up-to-date equipment enhances our ability to protect lives and better serve our community.”

The grant announcement was made over the weekend during an open house at the new Firehouse Subs location on Lasalle Boulevard in Sudbury. “We are very excited to support Greater Sudbury Fire Services and help strengthen the lifesaving capabilities of this community,” said Dean Derro, Firehouse Subs franchise owner in Sudbury. “Our mission is to ensure first responders have the tools they need to act quickly and safely.

Ten years later, with the opening of the first Canadian Firehouse Subs restaurant in 2015, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada was born. Today, the foundation has awarded more than $6.3 million throughout Canada.
