The Kingston Steer Barbecue celebrated its 65th anniversary this year. The first festival took place July 8, 1960. “It all began with 10 community-minded men, who each pledged $50 to cover the wholesale cost of the meat, foot, and ‘vittles’ for that first gathering,” co-chairs Elizabeth Wright and Brad Beardsley wrote in this year’s program.

“Their commitment and vision created a tradition that became a cherished part of our community’s history.” The parade occurred July 11 as the temperature hit 22 C in nearby Greenwood. And the winners are A look at the prize winners from the Kingston Steer Barbecue parade.

Most artistic – Kingston Farmers Market. Best children’s entry – Precession Dance. Best service club – Now Are The Good Ole Days entry.

Most outstanding – Village of Kingston. Best small business – Elderdog Dog. Best commercial entry – Home Hardware Building Centres.
