At 17, Langley’s Cole Dorland throws better than 90 mile-an-hour fastballs, developing his skills playing for the Langley Blaze in the BC Premier Baseball League.

On July 12, the 6’1′ 170 lb. right-hander was selected by the big-league Atlanta Braves in the 13th round of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft. Dorland, an alumni of Walnut Grove Secondary, becomes the second Canadian to be drafted by the Braves this year following a spring season pitching for the Blaze and Junior National Team.

Previously, he played for North Langley Trappers and the Whalley Chiefs. He has said his favourite day on a ball field was playing for Team BC at the 2025 Canada Summer Games, when he closed the gold medal game, throwing three innings and allowing just one hit for a 3-2 win over Quebec. In April, Dorland committed to play for the University of Alabama.

Langley Blaze issued an upbeat announcement, describing the call-up as “the culmination of years of hard work, determination, and a relentless commitment to his development as both a player and a teammate.” “Cole has earned this opportunity through his talent, perseverance, and unwavering work ethic,” the Blaze said. “His selection by the Braves is a testament to the countless hours he has invested in his craft and the support of those who have helped him along the way.”

He was one of 13 Canadians selected in the 2026 MLB Draft. Baseball BC also hailed the signing, saying “Cole’s selection is a reflection of the dedication, perseverance, and hard work he has shown throughout his baseball journey.”
