Letter: Canada should provide oil to Cuba Published 1:58 pm Tuesday, July 14, 2026 Dear Prime Minister Mark Carney, Premier David Eby, Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, Cowichan MP Jeff Kibble, and CVRD directors: It is Canada’s duty as a humanitarian nation to now export oil to Cuba — if legally possible — to provide energy for basic human rights such as medical care, food and water production, education and more. Cuba, sadly still under America’s egregious 55-year-old embargo, has arguably proven to be a neutral nation.

It is common knowledge Canada’s former prime minister Pierre Trudeau, and his family, were friends of late Cuban president Fidel Castro. Cuba is a sovereign nation. So is Canada.

The U.S. has reportedly proven to be an untrustworthy ally under Donald Trump. Cuba is apparently a Marxist country. The U.S. is provably a fascist nation at present.

Providing oil products to Cuba — visited by many Canucks — would be a cogently compassionate step as Canada and Cuba look toward green energy, and finally ending our reliance on toxic fossil fuels.
