Letter: City should replace Peak to Platzl stairs Published 2:09 pm Wednesday, July 15, 2026 I would like to say something about the infamous blue stairway that goes from below Norton Avenue to the Mark Creek, near Kimberley proper. Many people have used this route to go up and down by foot to their destination.

I am sure that the cost to make it safe isn’t out of reach and the Mayors of Kimberley when leaving office usually leave their mark on something that means a lot to people of their city. Don’t just discard a very practical part of a means to get to downtown. I have used this way to get to where I want to go and so have many others.

I wish City Hall would revamp whatever is wrong with the stairs. Stairs are needed in this city at townsite, Blarchmont, Selkirk and Norton Avenue below to Mark Creek. I am sure it would cost more to get rid of them than to fix them.

The structure probably helps the underslope of maintaining stability, like rock bolting. If these stairs are taken away, the slope there will absolutely be vulnerable, mark my words.
