December 1929 – July 2026 (96) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rita MacPhee (nee Walsh). She was 96 years old.
She was a loving wife and mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Rita was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia to the Walsh family where she was the daughter of John and Lucina Walsh, and she was part of a large family. She moved to Sudbury with her husband, Joseph MacPhee, in the 1970s because he was employed at the Falconbridge Smelter in Falconbridge, Ontario.
Rita worked at the airport dining lounge during the 1970s. She then worked at the Falcon Lunch in Falconbridge, and at the Capital Theatre Bingo Hall in downtown Sudbury. She was at Extendicare York for the past several years and died peacefully in her sleep on July 13, 2026.
We would like the thank the wonderful people at Extendicare York for their great care during the past years and during her final time there. The staff are wonderful, and you could tell they cared deeply for Rita. As per Rita’s wishes, there will be no funeral.
Rita will be set to rest in the St. John’s Cemetery in Garson, Ontario beside her husband. Arrangements entrusted to Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Service.
