Man dead after being hit by SUV in Pickering parking lot

A 68-year old man is dead after being struck by an SUV in a Pickering parking lot on Saturday night. Officers responded to the incident around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday in the parking lot of 1105 Kingston Road, Durham police wrote on social media Sunday.

A black Ford SUV was driving through the parking lot when it struck the man, who became trapped under the vehicle, police said. Responding police officers then lifted the Ford SUV to free the pedestrian and performed life-saving measures. “Despite the efforts of emergency services personnel, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” police wrote.

Police said the driver stayed on scene and is co-operating with investigators. The surrounding roadways were closed for several hours while officers collected evidence. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
