A suspect who was pinned under a forklift was taken to hospital after he allegedly rammed multiple cars in Victoria on Tuesday morning. Victoria Police say they received multiple calls about a man driving a forklift “erratically” between Blanshard Street and the 2000 block of Belmont Avenue around 11 a.m. Multiple officers were dispatched to the scene – including VicPD patrol officers, K9 services, and the Greater Emergency Response Team – as well as paramedics and the Victoria Fire Department.

By the time they arrived, they “found a forklift tipped over with the driver pinned underneath on Belmont Avenue,” says VicPD. “The suspect was taken into custody and transported to hospital for assessment of injuries.” Police say the forklift was reported stolen from a nearby business.

Witness watches forklift flip Sean McCullough says he was working in the area when the forklift crashed into the side of his truck. “I’m a contractor, I was doing work at this house here and wrapping up and packing up my truck around 11 o’clock this morning and all of a sudden I heard this crash and there was a forklift in the front of my truck,” he said. (CHEK News) “Then he drove away and I kind of ran after him a little bit. He swerved around the corner, swerved a little more, hit a curb and then flipped over.

That’s when I called 911,” said McCullough. McCullough says the forklift driver “looked pretty rough” before and after the crash. “He was in a lot of pain,” he said.

“Fuel was leaking all over the place and yeah, it was quite the scene.” McCullough says he spoke with another man who said his vehicle was also affected by the joyride.

In total, McCullough thinks eight vehicles were struck. “Apparently mine has got the worst of it,” he said. “I’m hoping to fix it back up because I’ve been working on this truck for a while and I’d hate to see it go.”
