Manns scores seven goals in Shamrocks runaway WLA win over Thunder

Zach Manns, who plays in the professional National Lacrosse League during the winter season, led the way for Victoria with seven goals.

The Victoria Shamrocks (11-2) kept rolling atop the Western Lacrosse Association standings with a 16-4 victory Friday night over the bottom-dwelling Langley Thunder (2-11) at the Q Centre. Zach Manns, who plays in the professional National Lacrosse League during the winter season, led the way for Victoria with seven goals. Brodie Wade and Chris Wardle scored twice each while captain Marshal King added six assists.

Heading into WLA games scheduled for Saturday night, Manns led the league scoring race with 70 points, with King third at 67 points, and Manns led the WLA in goals with 34, with King second at 32. Shamrocks goaltender Chris Origlieri made 39 saves to be named game second star behind Manns, while Denton Macdonald was named third star for his goal and strong defensive performance. Connor Watson and Dante Kulas led Langley each with a goal and assist.

The Shamrocks are in Nanaimo tonight for a game in the Island derby against the Timbermen at Frank Crane Arena. The Timbermen, 6-6 and holding down the fourth and final playoff position, were playing the second-place Maple Ridge Burrards (9-4) on Saturday night in the Harbour City in a game that was in progress at press time.
