Merritt hospital emergency department closed until Thursday morning

IH said emergency services at the hospital will be unavailable effective immediately until 7 a.m. on Thursday, July 16.

In a news release a little after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, IH said emergency services at the hospital will be unavailable effective immediately until 7 a.m. on Thursday, July 16. “Patients can access care at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops at this time,” IH said in a news release.

“All other inpatient services will continue at Nicola Valley Hospital.” The Nicola Valley Hospital ER was last closed on July 12. Interior Health has also advised the ER at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital in Clearwater will be closed tonight and there will be five separate service interruptions at 100 Mile District General Hospital between Thursday, July 16, and Tuesday, July 21.

Interior Health said anyone who needs care for life-threatening emergencies should call 911 to be taken to the nearest available facility. People can call 811 or visit HealthLinkBC.ca for non-emergency information from healthcare workers 24 hours a day, seven days per week. IH has stopped providing information about the reasons for temporary emergency room closures, but they are typically due to staffing shortages.
