There were 6,000 more trips across the Canada-U.S. border from eastern Ontario to New York State in June compared to last year, but cross-border trips remain below numbers reported in 2023 and 2024. Statistics from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection show there were 153,000 conveyances at the U.S. border locations at Alexandra Bay, Massena and Ogdensburg, New York in June, up from 147,000 border crossings in June 2025. Among the 153,000 trips across the border, 272,000 people travelled from eastern Ontario to New York State.

It was the third straight month with an increase in trips across the border from eastern Ontario to western New York State, after 14 months of decline since February 2025 due to the trade war between Canada and the United States and the low Canadian dollar. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported 173,000 conveyances at the three western New York border crossings in June 2024 and 163,000 in June 2023. The Thousand Islands Bridge, the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge and the land border crossing from Cornwall to Massena, New York all reported an increase in traffic in June.

There were 56,800 conveyances at the Alexandria Bay port of entry at the Thousand Islands Bridge in June, up from 53,900 border crossings in June 2025. U.S. officials reported 68,900 conveyances at the Alexandria Bay port of entry in June 2024. At the Ogdensburg, New York port of entry, there were 20,600 conveyances in June, up from 18,600 conveyances in June 2025.

The land border crossings from Cornwall and Akwesasne to Massena, New York continues to be the busiest border crossing in eastern Ontario-Western Quebec. U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported 75,300 conveyances at Massena in June, up from 74,500 trips in June 2025. There were 78,200 trips across the Canada-U.S. border to Massena in June 2024.

Flying to the U.S. The Ottawa International Airport also reported an increase in people flying to and arriving from destinations in the United States. Statistics on the Ottawa Airport website show there were 50,458 Transborder travellers in June, up from 46,325 passengers in June 2025 and 47,040 travellers in June 2024.

The airport says 396,799 transborder travellers have passed through the Ottawa International Airport through the first six months of the year. The airport reported fewer people flying to and arriving from destinations in the U.S. in January, February and March compared to the same period in 2025.
