OPP lays 2 stunt charges on Hwy. 69

OPP laid two stunt driving charges on Highway 69 south of Sudbury in separate stops on July 12 and 14. Officers say both drivers clocked travelling more than 150 km/h.

Ontario Provincial Police say officers have laid two stunt driving charges in separate incidents on Highway 69 south of Sudbury over a three-day period. OPP’s Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team in Sudbury laid the charges following stops on Sunday and Tuesday. Want more Sudbury-area news?

Check out its local news page. First incident On July 12, police stopped a driver on Highway 69 in Cox Township near Murdock River after the vehicle was clocked at 154 kilometres per hour in a posted 110 km/h zone. Second incident

The second stop occurred on July 14, on Highway 69 in Burwash Townshipafter the vehicle was clocked at 155 kilometres per hour in a posted 110 km/h zone. Stunt driving legislation “Ontario’s stunt driving legislation applies to any driver travelling 150 km/h or more anywhere in the province, including highways with a posted speed limit of 110 km/h,” the OPP said in a social media post . Immediate roadside penalties “Both drivers had their licences suspended for 30 days and their vehicles impounded for 14 days at the roadside,” police said.

The two drivers are scheduled to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.
