Police investigating vehicle strike of elderly pedestrian Posted Jul 17, 2026 10:38 am. Last Updated Jul 17, 2026 11:04 am. Police are investigating after an elderly man was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle in southeastern Alberta.

The Medicine Hat Police Service says an 84-year-old male pedestrian was crossing within a marked crosswalk, with the pedestrian crossing signals activated, when he was struck by a vehicle completing a left turn. The incident happened at 13 Avenue and Southview Drive southeast in Medicine Hat Thursday. Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 7:38 a.m.

“The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to hospital and was later airlifted to Calgary for further treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries,” a MHPS news release states, adding, “Heavy fog and poor visibility were present in the area during the morning hours and are being considered as factors in this collision.” The driver of a pickup truck has been charged with one count of Failing to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk and is scheduled to appear in court September 25th.
