The fate of the Port Perry Fairgrounds won’t be decided until next year. Scugog council held a special council meeting Monday as they considered a report suggesting what to do with the site in the future so it could be used year-round. The staff report was based on a report from a consultant that gathered input from the community and urged council to start working on an implementation plan for the fairgrounds.
One of the more controversial recommendations was to sell off four acres of the 23-acre property for development and use the money to fund improvements on the land. The report before council also recommended they end the month-to-month lease with the Port Perry Agricultural Society for the site and turn it into a no-cost special events permit moving forward so they could still host the fair on the land. In the end, council decided to defer the decision until the first quarter of 2027.
