A Sherwood Park couple has scanned their way into financial freedom. Lorna and Rolando Lavita are Alberta’s newest millionaires after winning the June 6 Western 649 $2-million jackpot. When Lorna initially scanned the ticket, she was in disbelief.

“When I scanned it in store, I had to scan it twice and then I called my husband over to scan it again and confirm what I saw,” she said. The couple still couldn’t fathom their win and continued to pinch themselves once they got home.

“When we got home, our daughter couldn’t believe us, and she looked up the winning numbers to see for herself,” Lorna said. “I was shaking, I was so excited!” The Lavitas have rough plans for their newfound fortune, including purchasing real estate, financial management, and a family trip home.

“We want to buy a house, make some investments, and take a trip back home to the Philippines,” said the Lavitas. Their winning Western 649 ticket was purchased at a Petro-Canada located at 100 270 Baseline Road in Sherwood Park. You can also support our journalism by becoming a digital subscriber.
