The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) is out with a warning about driving impaired, and some concerning numbers. WRPS officials said between Friday night and Sunday afternoon this past weekend, officers were called to six collisions reportedly involving an impaired driver. There were 11 called in total regarding impaired driving in Waterloo Region over that time frame.

“Impaired driving puts everyone at risk. Plan a safe ride home before you go out. If you see suspected impaired driving, call 911,” said an update from WRPS.

11 impaired driving incidents. 6 collisions. Between Friday at 9 p.m. and Sunday at 3:45 a.m., Waterloo Regional Police responded to 11 incidents involving impaired driving across Waterloo Region, including six collisions.

Back in February, WRPS released its latest statistics, showing an increase of nearly 20 per cent in impaired driving incidents regionwide.

The numbers showed the service laid 967 impaired-driving charges across roads in 2025, an increase of 18 per cent compared with 2024. “That encompasses both alcohol and drug-impaired driving offences. They’re under the same section of the Criminal Code of Canada,” said Staff Sergeant Scott Metcalfe with the WRPS Traffic Services Unit.
