Smoke has cleared, but Canada Post says there could be delays in Sudbury

Sudbury and vicinity are under yellow delivery service alert

Canada Post said Greater Sudbury is among the communities it has put under a yellow delivery service alert due to wildfire smoke, meaning there may be delays. That's despite the fact that Air Quality Ontario is predicting air quality in the low risk range this evening and Friday. The air quality was in the "very high risk" category as of early Thursday, but that has since cleared up.

"Wildfires and poor air quality are affecting mail and parcel delivery in parts of Ontario," said a press release. "Canada Post is putting emergency measures in place to best serve residents of these communities and keep them connected. Due to the current conditions, Canada Post has issued today red and yellow delivery service alerts for several communities in Ontario.

The safety of our employees is our number one priority." Red service alerts means Canada Post is suspending delivery for the day and not sending delivery agents out or recalling them. This includes mail collection.

A yellow service alert means Canada Post will do its best to deliver, but there may be delays. Delivery will resume once conditions improve and it’s safe to do so. The following communities have been issued a red alert: - Windsor - Gull Bay - Belleville - Trenton - Cobourg - Aroland - Sault Ste.

Marie, Ont. (issued July 15) - Armstrong Station and Collins, Ont. (issued July 15)
