A Souris man has pleaded guilty to child luring after he asked for and received intimate photographs from an underage teen in the United States. Lee Marwick, 42, pleaded guilty to the charge in Brandon provincial court on Tuesday. It was Marwick’s second guilty plea this year to child luring involving a U.S. victim.

An agreed statement of facts laid out the circumstances of the latest offence. By entering the guilty plea, Marwick accepted that he was the exclusive holder of a Snapchat account that was in conversation with the victim, who was a 13-year-old girl living in Michigan on Nov. 30, 2024. “The accused further agrees that during the time frame of this ... conversation, he expressly requested and obtained an indeterminate number of photos of the victim exposing her breasts, from the victim herself,” the agreed statement of facts said.

The statement said Marwick took no reasonable steps to ascertain the victim’s age at the time of the offence. It was agreed that the victim was also engaged in similar conversations with other offenders around the same time period. However, the accused would not have known this during the time of the offence, the statement said.

Marwick previously pleaded guilty to another count of child luring in March, which involved a 10-year-old victim from the United States. Defence lawyer Jennifer Janssens said a forensic assessment was completed in relation to the first charge right around the time the second charge came to light. She asked that sentencing be put over to a later date to allow time for psychological services to prepare an addendum to the report and do additional assessments to confirm if there are any changes in the results of the assessment or recommendations.

Marwick’s matter will appear on an administrative docket on Aug. 4 in Brandon provincial court. The date Marwick will be sentenced has not yet been set. » sanderson@brandonsun.com
