Home » Sparwood Council Facts The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the July 7 District of Sparwood council meeting. INFORMAL PUBLIC HEARING Traffic Regulations Bylaw No. 1346, 2026 An informal Public Hearing was held to receive community feedback on the proposed Traffic Regulations Bylaw.

The proposed bylaw updates Sparwood’s traffic regulations to align with current provincial legislation and operational needs, including the proposed designation of a portion of Michel Creek Road as a No Truck Route. Residents, businesses, and stakeholders had the opportunity to provide input. Council discussed the bylaw at the regular meeting of council held after the Informal Public Hearing and gave the bylaw second and third reading.

BYLAWS Fire Services Amendment Bylaw No. 1375, 2026 Council gave first, second, and third readings to Fire Services Amendment Bylaw No. 1375, 2026. The amendments update the district’s Fire Services Bylaw to align with current provincial legislation and operational practices.

Key updates include simplifying the backyard fire pit permit process by removing the requirement for annual permit renewals. The bylaw also allows for the rental of the of Fire Training Centre and Reserve Engine, and updates fire service boundaries along Highway 3 to improve service delivery and support cost recovery for highway-related emergency responses. These changes are intended to improve administrative efficiency, enhance transparency, and better reflect current operational needs.

BUSINESS Bulk Water Station Project Construction Award Council approved the award of the 2026 Bulk Water Station Project construction contract to Speers Construction Incorporated for $308,288 (plus applicable taxes), excluding optional work. The project will establish a controlled and metered bulk water station to improve operational efficiency, safety, and accessibility for residents, commercial users, and district staff. The new project will simplify fee administration and cost recovery.

As part of the approved project, infrastructure will also be installed to support a future backup generator for the Bulk Water Station and Sparwood Drive Lift Station. The project supports the district’s continued investment in reliable and efficient utility infrastructure for the community.
