Taber Arena’s ice surface reopens with community celebration following December’s explosion The Town of Taber will celebrate the reopening of the large ice surface at the Taber Arena on July 31 after months of repairs following a December explosion. The “Return of our Rink” celebration will give residents an opportunity to be among the first members of the public back on the ice before the Verset Hockey Camp begins Aug. 1. The event will include a ribbon cutting ceremony and the inaugural induction of Dr. Gerald Beckie and Joe Orban into the arena’s new Wall of Fame before the community skate.
Town officials said staff and local contractors spent the past several months repairing the arena after the explosion, with crews working toward an internal goal of reopening the large ice surface by Aug. 1.
