"This week final progress was made towards commissioning the new section of watermain near the Bay Street – East Street intersection," Bertolo said in his weekly update on the project. "Additional watermain was installed along East Street and culminated with a new hydrant being installed just south of civic address 72."

"Work on manholes in the intersection was completed." Bertolo said. "In the following weeks, work will continue on sewer and watermains moving northward along East Street.

The commissioned watermain will be connected to the existing watermains. "Any consumers impacted by the outages, required to facilitate the watermain connections, have been notified. "Trenches will be backfilled as possible to allow for road base construction to begin.

"The PUC crews may also begin transferring electrical lines to the new poles installed north of Queen Street. "There are no changes anticipated to the traffic controls or access next week. Queen Street continues to remain open."

The work started on May 11. It will include replacing storm and sanitary sewers, water main infrastructure, granular road base, asphalt roadway surface, curbs, boulevards, and sidewalks. Landscaping and street furnishings will also be provided.

Construction is expected to be substantially complete by late fall. Final work, including the surface lift of asphalt, is scheduled for completion next year.
