Summer Challenge's Alice by Heart takes the Alice in Wonderland story and blends it with the events of the early years of World War II
Article content The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board’s (NPSC) Summer Challenge program is inviting the community to experience the magic of live theatre this summer with its 2026 production, Alice by Heart. Taking place over three evenings, the performance showcases the remarkable talents of students in Grades 7-12 from across the district. 2

They will take place at Bishop Carter Theatre at St Joseph-Scollard Hall, 675 O’ Brien Street. The doors will open at 6:15 p.m. with performances beginning at 7 p.m. Inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Alice by Heart follows Alice Spencer as she escapes into her imagination amid the rubble of the 1941 London Blitz.
As she brings her favourite storybook to life from memory, this stunning and deeply moving musical highlights the power of hope, resilience, and creativity in the face of adversity. “This production is a testament to the creativity, dedication, and passion of our students,” said Whitney Cerilli, Program Director. “Summer Challenge continues to provide a meaningful opportunity for young performers to build confidence and develop their artistic talents while creating something truly memorable for our community.”
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the doors on show nights or in advance from the front office at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall or Creative Learning (181 Main St. W., North Bay). Please note that Creative Learning ticket purchases are cash only. Launched in 2003, Summer Challenge is an enrichment arts credit course offered through NPSC’s Summer School that provides students in Grades 7-12 from across the community with the opportunity to develop skills in acting, singing, dance, and theatre production.
