As much of Saskatchewan remained under severe heat warnings over the weekend, several communities’ broke long-standing temperature records.

As much of Saskatchewan remained under severe heat warnings over the weekend, several communities’ broke long-standing temperature records. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), these locations hosted records which were broken on Sunday, July 12. They include: Cypress Hills Provincial Park New: 31.8 C Old: 30.4 C set in 2003 Eastend Cypress Tied: 32.7 C set in 2002 Wynyard New: 32 C Old: 30.9 C set in 2006 Yorkton New: 33.8 C Old: 33.3 set in 1964 As of 5:30 p.m. Monday, an orange heat warning remains in place for much of southeast Saskatchewan including Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle, Carnduff and Moosomin.

Temperatures exceeding 32 degrees were expected with humidex values reaching the high 30s. Daytime highs are expected to drop to the high 20s on Tuesday and will remain there for the rest of the week.
