Town cancels outdoor recreational activities due to air quality

Oakville is cancelling all active outdoor recreation programming on July 15 and 16 as wildfire smoke continues to affect air quality, the town says.

Due to the ongoing air quality as a result of the ongoing forest fires in Northern Ontario, the town of Oakville will be changing or cancelled all active outdoor programming for July 15 and 16. All outdoor recreational activities will be cancelled on these days but certain activities like summer camps will continue indoors Environment Canada has issued an Orange Air Quality Warning for Oakville due to smoke from ongoing forest fires. — Town of Oakville (@townofoakville) July 15, 2026

As a precaution, a number of Town programs have been cancelled or modified including all active outdoor recreation programs. Those participants who will have their classes cancelled due to the air quality will be given a credit for the missed class.

Those who have booked rentals on July 15 or 16 may cancel outdoor bookings without penalty. The majority of drop-in programs in the town are indoors and air conditioned, please participate at your own comfort level. Oakville Fire Departments Summer Splash event at Wynten Park that was scheduled for tonight has also been cancelled with hopes that the event can be re-scheduled for Thursday.
