By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on July 16, 2026. newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com A five-day traffic safety blitz near Maple Creek took 11 commercial vehicles off the road last week, according to the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol.

Officers ran the operation from July 6-10, checking commercial and passenger vehicles traveling on provincial highways. During the traffic blitz, officers stopped and inspected 248 vehicles. Of those, 40 were commercial vehicles.

The operation led to 11 commercial vehicles being placed out of service. Officers also handed out four roadside suspensions for drug impaired driving. Police issued 47 tickets under the Traffic Safety Act.

Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Community Safety says the checks are meant to keep highways safe for everyone. The ministry says it runs similar operations across the province. It called them part of an ongoing safety program for commercial and passenger vehicles.

“These operations are designed to enhance public safety by ensuring commercial and passenger vehicles comply with all traffic safety regulations,” the ministry said. Maple Creek sits in southwest Saskatchewan, about an hour east of Medicine Hat.
