Trail-Rossland Burger Month serves up new memories for Castlegar mom, daughter Published 9:00 am Thursday, July 16, 2026 For Anne Rybak, a Trail-Rossland Burger Month outing wasn’t just about the burger. It was about stepping outside her comfort zone, discovering somewhere new and sharing an evening with her daughter.

The Castlegar senior made her first-ever visit to Tailout Brewing after her daughter, Christine Chore, invited her out to try one of the Trail-Rossland Burger Month featured creations. “I wasn’t sure if she would want to go to a brewpub, so I didn’t tell her where we were going until I picked her up,” Chore said. Her concerns quickly disappeared.

“The featured burger eased her hesitation about visiting a brewpub because it was the one she wanted to try first,” Chore said. “It gave her confidence to step into a place she might not have chosen otherwise.” Rybak, who moved to the West Kootenay from Ontario in 2020 to be closer to family, had been looking forward to Burger Month.

She had even saved the Trail Times insert listing all of the participating restaurants and their creations. When the server brought out the burger, Chore said it felt like a showcase, adding to the sense that the evening was something special. “There was a sense of excitement, almost like being a food critic, paying attention to the creativity, presentation and tastes,” she said.

“It was more than just ordering a meal. It was an event, and her opinion mattered.” For the pair, the outing became much more than dinner.

“It was a mother-daughter date,” Chore said. “This event motivated her to be social and get out of the house. We spent an evening out of town together, and it was a fun and memorable experience she still talks about.”

Chore said community events like Burger Month offer more than the chance to enjoy a good meal. “They’re a great excuse to get out, support local restaurants and discover places you might not have visited otherwise,” she said. For her mother, the evening proved that sometimes the simplest outings leave the biggest impression.

“Simple pleasures. Grand memories,” Chore said. “Sometimes the simplest outings can have the greatest impact on well-being and happiness.”
