Calgary police have charged two people after seizing a stolen, loaded handgun as well as drugs and cash, according the Service. Investigators began looking into the case in June, police say they received a tip that a man, armed with a gun was selling drugs. Officers later obtained a search warrant for a home in Mayland Heights neighbourhood.

Police believe the home was tied to the suspect. During the search, officers seized a loaded 9mm handgun, handgun ammunition and $7,819.60 in cash. Police say they also found 59.9g of fentanyl, 17.5 grams of cocaine and 10.6 grams of methamphetamine.

Police says the handgun had been stolen from Strathmore, east of Calgary. During the arrest, a suspect was believed to have thrown away a firearm before being taken into custody, police say. Michael Allen Storey, 45, faces 19 charges.

They include 10 counts of possessing a firearm and ammunition against a prohibition order, three counts of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possessing proceeds of crime over $5,000. He is also charged with resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon and other firearms-related offenses. Storey is set to appear in court on Aug. 5.

Ashley Lynn Wren, 26, faces two charges. Police say those charges are one count of possessing ammunition against a prohibition order and one count of failing to follow a release order. Wren’s court date took place on Thursday.

Police did not release the home communities of the two accused and none of the charges have been proven in court. The Medicine Hat Police Service estimates one gram of fentanyl equals about 10 doses. That would put the amount seized in Calgary at roughly 600 doses.

Anyone with information is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be left anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. 13 -12
