Two men are facing charges after police seized drugs and guns in Fort McMurray. The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams says a Fort McMurray organized crime team made the arrests on June 11. Wood Buffalo RCMP helped search two homes, a storage facility and three vehicles.

ALERT says it seized just shy of $100,000 worth of drugs. That includes 915 grams of cocaine, 27 grams of methamphetamine and smaller amounts of various other drugs. Police also seized three firearms with ammunition and $4,165 in cash.

One of the weapons was prohibited, ALERT says. All three weapons will be sent for forensic testing and ballistics analysis to find if they were used in any additional crimes. “Community safety is paramount.

ALERT and Wood Buffalo RCMP share a commitment to taking drugs and guns off the street and dismantling organized crime,” said Staff Sergeant Mark Wait of ALERT. ALERT says it began looking into the two men months earlier, after it received criminal intelligence about their suspected drug trafficking. Matthew Berkshire, 34, of Fort McMurray, is charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Dylan Hurley, 36, is charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of drugs, possession of proceeds of crime, several firearms related offences and failure to comply with conditions of a release order. Berkshire was released from custody, he is set to appear in court on today. ALERT says Hurley remains in custody and was due in court on June 30.

The charges have not yet been proven in court. ALERT runs eight regional teams across Alberta, including one in Medicine Hat. In November 2025, ALERT and the Medicine Hat Police Service arrested two suspected drug dealers.
