We haven't had the chance to fully test this silicon under heavy workloads yet, but navigating the initial setup and basic web apps out of the box felt very fluid and responsive. Lenovo is offering this updated model in two distinct internal configurations: $529.99 MSRP: Packs 8GB of RAM paired with 128GB of fast UFS storage. $419.99 MSRP: Scales down to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of standard eMMC storage.

Slim 3 Chromebook at Best Buy (8GB) A premium display on a budget frame The absolute star of the show here is the display. Lenovo upgraded the older 16:9 aspect ratio and replaced it with a gorgeous 14-inch 16:10 touchscreen pushing a crisp 400 nits of brightness. It features a highly welcome anti-glare coating that helps make the most of that peak brightness, boasts excellent viewing angles, and even features subtle rounded corners on the display that give it a surprisingly premium look.

The physical chassis is entirely plastic, but it feels securely put together with very little deck flex. Weighing in at just under 3 pounds, it is incredibly easy to toss into a backpack. It also brings some unexpected premium features to the table, including a fully backlit keyboard that provides a quiet, tactile typing experience.

The compromises Of course, to hit an affordable price bracket, concessions have to be made. While the built-in 720p webcam does a surprisingly good job with rapid contrast and skin tone adjustments, I'd always prefer to see a 1080p sensor at least. My biggest gripes, however, belong to the audio and trackpad: The Speakers: Despite being upward-firing, the Waves MaxxAudio speakers are incredibly quiet, completely devoid of bass, and make spoken word sound very tinny.

These are just bad speakers. The Trackpad: While the Mylar surface is smooth and gestures work perfectly, our unit suffers from a bit of wobble, making interactions feel pretty cheap with the trackpad. Initial verdict At its regular $529 retail price, the 8GB model is entering a territory where it has to compete with heavily discounted Chromebook Plus certified devices.
