VIDEO: Bigger turnout for Old Farts Car Club cancer fundraiser Published 5:00 am Tuesday, July 14, 2026 Three-year-old Dominic Vito from Port Coquitlam was an enthusiastic presence at the Old Farts Car Club (OFCC) show and cancer fundraiser on Sunday at Vanguard Secondary School in Langley’s Otter neighbourhood, running from vehicle to vehicle.

Mom Chelsea explained her son was in his element. “Cars are his happy place,” she remarked. ” He loves checking out cars and he actually takes a moment to really inspect them” she said.

Lately Dominic, has been spending a lot of time in hospital, undergoing surgery and chemo for bilateral retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer. “Any time we leave the hospital he asks to go drive by dealerships to go check out cars,” said Chelsea. ”Everything that we raise goes direct to the families,” Chapman told the Langley Advance Times. They started in Langley City in 2018, then ran out of room and found a new home at the Royal Canadian Legion Aldergrove branch, where they once again ran out of room and this year relocated to their new, much bigger location at the school, with more than enough space n the Vanguard playing field for the 165 cars that attended, up from the 146 they barely managed to squeeze in last year. Among them, a 1996 Ford F-150 that Langley City resident Clay Clemas rescued from destruction.

He was thinking about selling it, but decided to show it at the OFCC show instead, even though it was a little dusty from sitting in is garage. “I bought it three years ago from a guy that inherited it from his grandmother. And he was cutting it all up with a sawzall because he wasn’t too happy about inheriting only a truck.”

Clemas intervened before too much damage was done. “[He] chopped up the dash and I put a new one in it.” His rescued truck is fully loaded, with a five litre high output engine, five-speed with air, tilt, cruise, “the whole works,” and better than his new truck, Clemas has noted.

“Way more reliable. Way easier to fix.” He’s changed his mind about selling.

“I think I’ll keep it.” Now in it’s ninth year, the show was inspired by Godfrey Hamon, an original member of the OFCC, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and died a few months later. Every year around July 13th, Hamon’s birthday, the club puts on a car show to help cancer patients with everyday expenses like rent, utilities, and gas.
