Food vendors sold out, and community organizations ran out of giveaways. Global Fest drew crowds to Douglas Park in Langley City pic.twitter.com/5XKAo0KRv4 — Langley Advance Times (@LangleyTimes) July 11, 2026 Organizer Antonio Hakko, Local Immigration Partnership youth immigration advisor for Langley Local Immigration Partnership, told the Langley Advance Times said the event has come a long way since it was launched four years ago. Hakko described how it was started by some people who thought celebrating different cultures and different ethnicities was a good idea, but didn’t have a lot of experience organizing a large community event.

“We learn something every year, so it’s come a long way in terms of organisation, in terms of participation,” Hakko said. “There’s a lot of people here today compared to four years ago.” Hakko, originally from Syria, was beaming at the sight of so many people.

“I think it’s really important that we’re able to create something that brings people together, and I think it’s really fun, and I’m really grateful that we are able to host something like this,” Hakko enthused. “The park is filled with people, and every year I get to meet new people from all over the world and hear their stories. I think that is what this is about, being able to come together and hear each other’s stories and learn about everybody else’s.”

Global Fest relocated to Douglas Park to take advantage of its central location, the Spirit Square stage and to partner alongside other weekend celebrations, in particular the Pokemon Go Fest at the park, one of several Pokemon Go events taking place around the world over the weekend.
