Amid a strike vote taking place this week, the union for thousands of WestJet workers are set to hold a day of action on Tuesday. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 8125, which represents about 4,400 WestJet flight attendants, will demonstrate outside Calgary’s WestJet campus building, at 22 Aerial Place N.E., at 11:30 a.m. The action is the latest step in the labour dispute between CUPE and the company, where the main issue is pay.

The union says its members perform an average of 35 hours of unpaid work each month and their wages are not keeping up with inflation. Members will be voting on a strike mandate on Tuesday and Wednesday. If membership approves strike action, the earliest it could happen would be Aug. 2.

Talks will continue between WestJet and the union until Friday.
