Home » Wray stresses importance of independent local government City of Cranbrook councillor and mayoral candidate Lynnette Wray is sounding the alarm on a growing movement seeking to infuse party politics into local governance. “Yesterday evening, I learned about a new, province-wide municipal political party called the Conservative Municipal Party/Conservative Electors Association, which intends to run candidates in 40 communities in this fall’s local government election. In the Kootenay-Boundary region, Cranbrook, Golden, and Grand Forks are on their list,” she said.

“In Cranbrook, we know what our needs, priorities, and opportunities are; we’re independent and self-reliant – we don’t need a provincial municipal party headquartered in North Vancouver to tell us what to do. “Based on what I see on the news, municipal political parties, which are mostly found in big cities in the Lower Mainland, lead to divisiveness, polarization, and less effective leadership,” Wray pointed out. “I believe that local government works best when it consists of non-partisan, independent representatives who work for the betterment of their community.

Let’s keep local government local!” Wray concluded she is proud to be an independent, non-partisan, and pragmatic mayoral candidate in Cranbrook. “I will always put Cranbrook first.”
