After a search in CBS, NL RCMP arrest one man in connection to an armed robbery in Mobile

The search involved two RCMP detachments, the RNC and a police dog; second suspect still at large

A police chase that started in Mobile and ended in Conception Bay South led to the arrest of a man on Monday night, July 13. Police said Tuesday, July 14, that they’re still searching for a second suspect in an armed robbery of a store along the Southern Shore Highway in Mobile. The car was found in CBS, and the search involved not only the Ferryland RCMP — who responded originally to the armed robbery — but also members of the Holyrood RCMP detachment and the RNC.

What happened? Just after 7 p.m. Monday evening, Ferryland RCMP responded to reports of an armed robbery at a store in Mobile, where two masked suspects had entered the store and threatened staff with a firearm. Shortly after, the pair left in a black Acura Integra with a small bit of cash.

Witnesses told police that the vehicle was headed for St. John’s. Police later located the car abandoned near a trail in CBS. After a short search, they found one of the suspects after he was tracked to a nearby property with the help of a police dog.

That suspect, 36-year-old Darryl McDonald, was arrested and later charged with several counts, including breaking and entering with intent, use of a firearm in committing robbery, disguised with intent, pointing a firearm, using a firearm in commission of indictable offense, two counts of unlawfully possessing a forearm under probation, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, obstructing justice and failure to comply with a probation offer. Police still seeking second suspect The investigation continues to locate the second suspect in the robbery. Currently, police are looking for witnesses and asking the public to check any surveillance cameras or dash cam for any video from the time of the robbery until 9:30 p.m. along the path the suspects took, including Mobile, the Witness Bay Line, the Trans-Canada Highway and the Foxtrap Access Road, as well as Farmland Lane in CBS.
