It will later expand to select cinemas across both the US and Canada through distributor Kino Lorber, allowing a wider international audience to experience one of this year’s most talked-about Philippine films. Awards “Filipiñana” first gained global attention when it premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it competed in the World Cinema Dramatic section. The film received the Special Jury Award for Creative Vision, recognizing its bold artistic approach and was also among the nominees for the festival's Grand Jury Prize for Dramatic Features. In May, Manuel was honored with the New Directors Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival. About the film The story revolves around Isabel, a teenage golf caddy working inside an elite country club.

Fascinated by the club's president, Dr. Palanca, Isabel finds herself drawn toward a man who represents privilege and power. However, her admiration gradually gives way to suspicion as she uncovers disturbing realities hidden beneath the country's upper-class institutions. Her investigation eventually reveals a deeper and more personal connection to Dr. Palanca, forcing her to confront a past shaped by violence and social divisions.

Weaving psychological mystery with commentary on post-colonial society, “Filipiñana” explores themes of class, power, historical memory and Filipino identity through a distinct visual language that has resonated with festival audiences.
