PEOPLE's cover on the Real Housewives is good but is missing a significant Housewife and celebrity social media for July 17, 2026
This PEOPLE cover on the Real Housewives is good and features most of the franchises (except for Rhode Island, which is new). It’s the cast of Ultimate Girls Trip: Roarin’ 20 th and you just know this selection has sent some of the unchosen women into a tailspin. These are the prime jobs, these are the Bravo favourites.
It’s a good selection, but it is missing NeNe Leakes, who is my all-time favourite Housewife. My Housewives Mount Rushmore is four NeNe Leakes. Hot off a report that audiences are dropping Netflix shows after one season , its quarterly earning report talked about its expanding use of AI . Bad week for the PR team. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Netflix UK & Ireland (@netflixuk) Contemplating how to get a Spy sequel made.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jason Statham (@jasonstatham) Sarah’s opener this morning activated me like a sleeper agent because I have a lot to say on why soccer hasn’t caught on in the US and my first question is, does it need to? It’s the world’s game.
Sarah mentioned baseball, and I think it’s a great comparison. Travel ball, which started off as elite, is now largely a pay-for-play system that is decimating youth baseball. It’s very expensive, hyper-competitive, and can lead to burnout/injury.
It encourages instant gratification: winning over developing. Many professional coaches, college coaches and players have spoken out about the system but parents don’t want to hear it. As for soccer, look at the Norway system.
(Or Canada, which has a much higher per-capita participation in youth soccer than the US.) Norway has a strong youth system that is not based on winning. They don’t keep score or record wins/ losses for teams under 13 and there are “fair play” rules (meaning every kid gets to try every position).
You know what else has fair play rules, is community-centred, and thrives on participation and learning, rather than competitiveness? Little league baseball, which is declining in the US because of...travel ball. It’s the “kids shouldn’t get participation trophies” mentality that is ruining it.
What’s wrong with giving an 8-year-old a participation trophy? If they showed up on Saturday morning and played and were good sports, a ribbon isn’t going to ruin them. It’s rewarding effort.
It’s the parents’ egos that are fragile, not the kids. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk. Here’s Jon Bernthal talking about playing pro ball in Russia.
