CFB Borden raises flag in New Tecumseth for 110th anniversary

Canadian Forces Base Borden and the Town of New Tecumseth gathered this weekend to celebrate the base’s special milestone. Military officers and dignitaries raised a flag outside town hall in Alliston on Saturday for CFB Borden’s 110th anniversary. The town posted a social media video of Mayor Richard Norcross shaking hands with Col. Melissa Ramessar, base commander, after the flag was raised.

“The connection between New Tecumseth and CFB Borden is one built on mutual respect, collaboration, and community,” said Mayor Norcross in a statement to the media prior to Saturday morning’s formalities. “The Town of New Tecumseth is proud to join in celebrating 110 years of excellence and to recognize the countless individuals who have trained, served, and contributed to Canada’s defence through CFB Borden.” CFB Broden was established in 1916 during the First World War and is recognized as the birthplace of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

According to the base, it trains nearly 20,000 military personnel per year and has become the largest training establishment in the Canadian Armed Forces. Col. Ramessar and her troops then raised a 110th anniversary flag at the Lisle Legion in Adjala-Tosorontio Township alongside Mayor Scott Anderson.
