Responders battle a garage fire as well as a basement fire in Belleville
Article content Belleville firefighters had their hands full battling two fires in the city within a 24-hour period ending early morning on July 17. Belleville Fire and Emergency Services was called out to the scene of a basement fire at 1:12 a.m. on Friday in the 100 block of Moira St West. Recommended Videos Firefighters went to work to put out the blaze before it spread, said Deputy Chief Mark Shannon.
“The fire was brought under control with an aggressive interior attack,” said Shannon. “A lone male resident was able to get out of the house without injury and was checked by Hastings Quinte EMS,” he said. Belleville police blocked Moira Street West between Ponton and Frank streets.
Fire prevention officers were on scene to determine a cause. No damage estimate was available at press time. In an earlier call the day before, Belleville firefighters responded to quickly put out a fully involved garage blaze City firefighters made quick work of a garage fire that broke out Thursday afternoon.
Belleville Fire and Emergency Services personnel were dispatched after a call for assistance came in at 1:32 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they were presented with a blaze burning through the roof of a detached garage between two homes in the 100 block of Montgomery Boulevard. The garage was fully involved with two homes on each side only steps away.
“Firefighters made a rapid attack and brought the blaze under control in minutes and prevented any damage to either home,” said Shannon. The elderly residents of one home were evacuated for precaution and no injuries were reported. Fire prevention was on scene to determine a cause.
